Streams and rivers are now open to trout fishing until Oct. 31. Fishing is restricted to artificial flies and lures in streams above tidewater, except the South Fork Coquille where bait is allowed. Anglers may harvest 2 trout per day that are a minimum of 8 inches long.

Smallmouth bass fishing has been better in the lower Coquille River. The water temperatures in the South Fork Coquille are colder and smallmouth bass are a little more sluggish at least until the water temperatures warm up in the next couple of weeks.

Anglers have been catching shad on the mainstem Coquille River around the town of Coquille. Adult shad should be in the river for another couple of weeks.

Recreational crabbing is open in the Coquille estuary. Crabbing has been very slow but will pick up in the next couple of months.
