Chinook salmon are present in the Nehalem, which gets an early fall run, and fishing has been fair but sporadic lately. Trolling herring or spinners in the lower bay is generally the most productive. We expect a modest run of Chinook this year, so fishing will be slow at times.

Coho salmon will be showing up in the Nehalem later this month. Anglers are reminded that there is NO RETENTION of wild coho in the Nehalem River this year; only adipose fin clipped coho may be retained.

Sea run cutthroat are present in good numbers on the North Coast this year, and are throughout the basin. Fishing has been pretty good for sea-runs this year and should remain so well into the fall. Most of the rivers are restricted to artificial lures and flies above tidewater until Aug. 31, so check the regulations before you go.
