The mainstem Nehalem doesn’t have any hatchery steelhead releases, but there should be wild steelhead available for catch-and-release fishing. All wild steelhead must be released unharmed. Avoiding long fights and handling will reduce stress on released fish.

The lower Nehalem remains off color due to recent rains. It can take a long time for this stretch of river to get in shape but with dropping flows in the future it may green up by early next week. The upper Nehalem will probably be fishable by the weekend if the weather predictions are correct
