Greeting Anglers, It's been well over 70 years since the Giant Humbolt Squid have invaded Ventura County waters. I felt it was necessary to get out there and tug on some of these beasts on board the Pacific Islander from Channel Islands Sportfishing. We shoved off with 21 anglers with Captain Paul Munowitch at the helm. It was my first opportunity to fish on board the Pacific Islander and it is an incredible vessel. With plenty of room on deck and at the rail, we knew we'd have no problem getting into'em. We fished the Santa Barbara Channel and the bite was wide open. The fierce fighting machines bent the rods of every angler that threw something at them. Whether it was a Giant Humbolt Squid Jig or lead-head attached to a 10 ounce sinker, there was no discrimination! When the pain became unbearable, it was time to go load up on some Rockfish. We had a great time out on the water with the official SFR Fishcount totaling 3 Sculpin, 60 Giant Squid, 10 Whitefish, 1 Rock Sole, 40 Vermilion Rockfish, 115 Rockfish. Get out there and claim your calamari! Call Channel Islands Sportfishing today and experience the Pacific Islander! For copies of any photos, please drop me a line at [email protected]. Tight Lines!
