RANCHO CORDOVA - The American River Trout Hatchery will be closed to the public for approximately 60 days due to construction starting Friday Feb. 13. The installation of a new effluent discharge line involves the use and storage of heavy construction equipment on site.

?Į?Į"The installation of the new effluent discharge line will not affect the delivery of trout to various planting sites," said California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) Fish Hatchery Manager Frank M. Harris. "We are closing the grounds to visitation during construction because of public safety concerns."

The new line is a part of on going hatchery improvements. American River Trout Hatchery previously shared a discharge line with Nimbus Hatchery. The single line could not handle discharge from both hatcheries at peak times.

This improvement is part of the DFG's commitment to implementing hatchery enhancements and improving facilities and fisheries called for in Assembly Bill 7.
?ĮAmerican River Trout Hatchery currently holds 1.8 million rainbow trout in various stages of growth. They are planted in regional waters once they grow to approximately one-half-pound. This time of the year fish are planted in lowland waters like Amador, Folsom, Collins lakes and in Fishing in the City designated waters.

Nearby Nimbus Hatchery and the Visitor Center will remain open during the construction.
